About · Tentacles IoT

Made in Rotterdam. Trusted Worldwide.

Since 2016, we've been building wireless sensors that turn substrate and soil into measurable, actionable intelligence — for growers, municipalities and substrate manufacturers on five continents.

Where It Started

Tentacles IoT was founded in Rotterdam in 2016 with a single conviction: that growing decisions should be driven by data, not intuition. The first prototypes went into greenhouses and Bulb fields within the Bollenstreek region of the Netherlands, where substrate moisture was being managed by feel — and growers wanted something better.

From the start we focused on what actually matters in cultivation: reliable measurements, calibrations tailored to the specific substrate, and a sensor you can plant and forget. That philosophy shaped everything that followed — the wireless 0G and LoRaWAN connectivity, the 15-year battery life, the fingerprinted calibration process for every growing medium.

In 2019 we partnered with GrownApps s.r.o., a Slovakian software house, to build the MyTentacles platform that turns every measurement into something useful. Their work on the dashboard, the alerting engine and the open API is what allows a Tentacles sensor to slot cleanly into a grower's existing operation — and that partnership is something we are genuinely proud of.

Today we work with over 200 customers across horticulture, public green and substrate manufacturing. Close to 5,000 sensors are in the field. Five continents. One philosophy: build the sensor once, calibrate it to the substrate, and let it do its job for the next decade and a half.

Milestones

A Decade of Quiet Engineering

No pivots, no rebrand. We started with one sensor and one promise — accurate, calibration-aware substrate data — and we have stuck with it.

2016

Founded in Rotterdam

Tentacles IoT is incorporated. First prototypes are tested in Dutch greenhouses to replace manual substrate moisture readings.

2019

Partnership with GrownApps s.r.o.

A Slovakian software house joins the team to build MyTentacles — the cloud platform, dashboard and open API that turns sensor telemetry into cultivation intelligence.

2020

First Industrial Deployment

Tentacles sensors enter large-scale commercial cultivation and public green projects. The fingerprinted substrate calibration process is patented.

2023

European Distribution Network

Partnerships with Log & Solve (Klasmann-Deilmann × 30MHz), Flower Your Place and Wildr extend reach across Europe's horticulture and public-green markets.

Today

Five Continents, One Philosophy

Over 200 customers and close to 5,000 sensors in the field — from the greenhouses of the Netherlands to tree pits in North American cities and flowering towers across southern Europe.

What We Stand For

What Stays The Same

Calibrated, Not Approximate

Every sensor is fingerprinted to the specific substrate or soil it is inserted into. A reading is an exact reading — not a generic estimate.

Built To Be Forgotten

No gateways, no cables, no replaceable parts, no fragile components. Plant it, calibrate it, and trust it for up to 15 years.

Open By Default

The MyTentacles platform exposes an open API and webhook system so customers can integrate sensor data into their own dashboards, ERPs and irrigation systems.

Honest Numbers

We do not invent data, smooth it out, or hide weak spots. If a sensor is degraded or a network is offline, the platform says so — clearly and quickly.
